We’re delighted to share another feature highlighting our knowledgeable and dedicated course tutors. Neil Carey is an highly experienced Chartered Land Surveyor with expertise in boundary disputes.
What has surprised you most during your career?
That surveyors are not taken more seriously! We are professionals, but other disciplines do not seem to value what we do.
What do you enjoy most about being part of The Survey School?
Interacting with the students and seeing “the penny drop” when a student who was struggling with a concept understands what you are trying to get across.
What’s your favourite piece of surveying equipment?
Laser Scanner. I love the technology and seeing the 3D pointclouds
If you could give one piece of career advice to a young surveyor, what would that be?
Always have a “can do” attitude. Never say “I don’t know how to do it” – you can find out how to do it!
What was one of the proudest days of your work life?
Successfully completing a 3D scan survey model of Pershore Abbey.
Favourite day surveying recently?
Surveying the weir at Diglis in Worcester. I was manning a total station and a specialist worker was wading about placing the detail pole where levels were required. A beautiful day by the river without too much to tax my brain… great!
